As the Ridgefield public schools are getting close to the much-celebrated “last day of school,” the Peter Parley Schoolhouse is ready for its 2022 opening. “Last Sundays at the Schoolhouse,” the seasonal opening of this mini-museum of early Ridgefield education, will get underway on Sunday, May 29, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The Peter Parley Schoolhouse, also known as the West Lane Schoolhouse, is at the intersection of West Lane, Silver Spring Road, and South Salem Road (Route 35). Other Sunday openings will be June 26, July 31, Aug. 28 (when we’ll celebrate Peter Parley/Samuel G. Goodrich’s birthday), Sept. 25, and Oct. 30 (early Halloween), all 1 to 4 p.m.
The Ridgefield Historical Society will also be offering water and encouragement at the Schoolhouse to runners in the Ridgefield Half Marathon and 7-Miler on Sunday, Oct. 16. The Schoolhouse is maintained by the Ridgefield Historical Society in cooperation with the town; many of its furnishings were provided by the Ridgefield Garden Club, the previous caretaker. Historical Society members Jack and Sally Sanders will welcome visitors and answer questions at the open houses.
