Historic House Plaques

Historic Buildings Deserve to be Recognized

Plaques for Historic Houses

The historic properties of Ridgefield deserve note – they represent the character and heritage of our town. The Architectural Resources Survey catalogued over 600 unique structures in our town, one of which might be yours.

Since 2001, the Historical Society has commemorated these important houses and accessory buildings with appropriate marker plaques. The wooden plaque design, approved by the Town of Ridgefield, is crafted by an artisan sign maker who specializes in hand workmanship.

If you are interested in purchasing a plaque for your home or other historic structure, please fill out the form below and we will get in touch with you. Purchase of a plaque in no way limits your right to make alterations to your house in the future.

Plaques are handpainted in black on a white background, measure 10 inches high (including the contour cut top) x 14 inches wide x 1/2 inch deep, include mounting screws, and are nonrefundable.

Pricing is discounted for members. To become a member and read about the other benefits of membership, click here.

It takes approximately seven weeks to produce a plaque and this is the process:

1. Fill out order form below and submit payment by credit card on the next page.

2. Historical Society staff will contact you within two weeks to discuss the history of your home and the wording for your plaque.

3. By the third week the Historical Society will email you a proof of your sign from the sign maker for you to approve.

4. It will then take up to four more weeks for your plaque to be custom made and the Historical Society will notify you when your sign is ready to be picked up (shipping is not available).
