Catoonah Circle, honoring the legacy of a prominent figure in Ridgefield’s history, celebrates individuals, families, and organizations who generously contribute $1,000 or more annually to advance the preservation, research, and educational initiatives of the Ridgefield Historical Society. Named after Catoonah, esteemed for his leadership as chief of the Ramapoo tribe, which once inhabited the area now known as Ridgefield, and for his pivotal role in the early interactions between Native Americans and European settlers, the circle pays homage to the rich heritage of our community. Notably, Catoonah Street was also the location of our historic Scott House for three centuries, from 1714 to 2000.

Membership in Catoonah Circle signifies a deep belief in the mission of the Ridgefield Historical Society and a steadfast commitment to its continued prosperity. Each member is indispensable to our work, providing vital support for the preservation of our town’s historic buildings, the conservation of rare artifact collections, the presentation of educational programs, and the promotion of public awareness about Ridgefield’s remarkable past, ensuring its legacy for future generations.
