Mad for Modern
Celebrating Modernism in Ridgefield
Mad for Modern is a continuing series presented by the Ridgefield Historical Society on architecture, design, and the built environment of Ridgefield’s modern and postmodern era. Developed under the W. Arthur Architectural Archives, the “Mad for Modern” series explores and celebrates the town’s 20th- century transformation through evolving design practices, materials, and patterns of suburban growth.
W. Arthur Architectural Archives
The W. Arthur Architectural Archives at the Ridgefield Historical Society honors the architectural heritage of Ridgefield by acquiring architectural drawings and related ephemera of the best representative work of architectural designers as well other works that represent the less-celebrated but important commercial and residential design that make up the character of the town. The Archives are a legacy gift in honor of modernist architect and prolific lighting designer Warren Arthur, who was a long-time member of the Planning and Zoning’s Architectural Advisory Committee. He designed a cluster of midcentury modern homes on one of Ridgefield’s small lakes that remain in use today.
