Stephen Bartkus, who has been Interim Executive Director of the Ridgefield Historical Society since the beginning of this year, has accepted the full-time position of Executive Director beginning July 10, 2023.
“The Historical Society could not be more delighted and ready to have Stephen join us as Executive Director,” says Board President Tracy Seem. “His experience and fresh take on our work is just what we need at this important time of our growth as an organization.”
Mr. Bartkus, an authority in the museum field with expertise in exhibitions, collections, education, and programming, was the Director and Curator of the Gunn Historical Museum in Washington for 15 years, winning national awards for his work there. Through his consulting work, he has helped transform museums across the State. He has a passion for collecting, preserving, and sharing the rich history and stories of Connecticut with diverse audiences in creative ways and is known for his innovation, community curation, team building, and collaboration skills. Mr. Bartkus is also a professional archaeologist actively practicing in Connecticut. Additionally, he has assisted the Connecticut League of History Organizations for more than a decade and served a term on its board.

I’m excited to help forge a future for Ridgefield where history enlightens, inspires, and unites us all.”
A public reception will be held in the early fall to welcome Mr. Bartkus and introduce him to the community.
