The Ridgefield Historical Society was honored by Preservation Connecticut for its “Battle of Ridgefield Documentation and Engagement” on Thursday evening, May 7. The honor was one of a dozen Awards of Merit honoring state preservationists. The citation honored the work of historical society members and Heritage Consultants, which has conducted research under grants provided by the American Battlefield Protection Program of the National Park Service.

Dr. Kevin McBride, who led the recent archaeological investigation of the extensive battlefield with Heritage Consultants, was also honored at the event with the Harlan H. Griswold Award for Historic Preservation for his 50-year career of “outstanding contributions to the preservation and revitalization of Connecticut’s historic places.”

The annual awards ceremony took place at the New Haven Country Club in Hamden and was attended by preservationists from throughout Connecticut.
