The Ridgefield Historical Society mourns the loss of our good friend and supporter Jonathan David “Jon” Seem, 61, who died suddenly on Friday, Sept. 25. The husband of our former president Tracy Ringgold Seem, he was the father of Jake and Harrison Seem.

“His passion for many things and people was infectious,” said current Historical Society president Steven Meyers. “I am blown away by how many people he touched. There was no cynicism in him. He was all positive energy. He always wanted to help. Not for himself but because he cared about others. He helped us at the historical society — always showing up, always full of ideas. He made us feel confident! He brought us music, friendship and support. I once asked him if he was Wishbone Ash’s manager. He wasn’t and told me he just liked helping them out.”
Board member James Segelstein shared this reminiscence of his friend and fellow history enthusiast: “Jon was an exuberant presence at countless Historical Society events and gatherings. He was a serious Ridgefield history buff who often expressed his wholehearted support for our efforts by joining us. When we took part in Memorial Day parades, Jon would don a colonial uniform, gather his Springer Spaniels and march along with us.
“But Jon was more than just an enthusiastic supporter. Jon was our friend, a fun person to be around who cared about us as individuals. A few of us who were extremely lucky, also got to know Jon as a brilliant musician. The first time any of us heard him with his guitar on stage, we experienced a revelation. The man could play! It was one more way that Jon shared himself so very generously with those around him. We’ll miss him so very much.”
Board member Kip Schibli, a longtime friend, added, “I think one of his great qualities that stood out to me was how he was interested in so many things — from his playing music locally, for cultural events and institutions in town to local venues, entrepreneurs and organizations — and how he connected these things and the people involved.”
A celebration of Jon’s life will be scheduled at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
