Schoolhouse Days

Springtime is always busy in the world of education and the Peter Parley Schoolhouse is no exception. In recent weeks we've welcomed a whole new crop of Parley scholars — offering them a glimpse of Schoolhouse life in centuries past.

It’s been a busy spring at the Peter Parley Schoolhouse as we welcomed Farmingville Elementary School’s third-grade classes and launched our seasonal open house series. Of the 15 one-room schoolhouses that operated in Ridgefield over the centuries, the Peter Parley West Lane Schoolhouse is one of about half still remaining, and currently the only one that operates as a museum.

Led by educators Dr. Darla Shaw with the support of B.G. Brown and Barbara Kaplan, our guests were treated to a step back in time, learning and imagining what it might have been like to live and attend school way back then. Take a look at the pictures — the students look happy!
