Pick From The Collection

What intrigued the 2023 summer interns at the Ridgefield Historical Society?

Sara Shepherd – 2023 Goldstone Family Foundation Intern – had this selection:

My favorite object in the Ridgefield Historical Society’s collection is a gold ring holding a black stone with the initial “S” inscribed, which appears to be from the Victorian era. The ring likely belonged to a member of the Scott family of Ridgefield, and was given to the Historical Society along with two miniature photographs of an elderly bearded man, who might have been the ring’s owner. While such a small artifact may seem like a strange choice given the Historical Society’s extensive collection, I love the style of the ring, as well as the questions that the ring raises (notably who wore it, and who, later on, had it resized), and how it helps tell us about a Ridgefield family during that time period.
