Ridgefield History Club: Memories of Jane Goodall

Memories of Jane Goodall will be the topic of the April meeting of the Ridgefield History Club, a free history discussion program of the Ridgefield Historical Society. The program will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the Scott House, 4 Sunset Lane.

Dr. Darla Shaw will lead the informal conversation, which focuses on sharing knowledge of Ridgefield’s past and is broadcast live on the Ridgefield Historical Society’s Facebook page for those who can’t attend in person.

The discussion will explore the life and legacy of Dr. Jane Goodall, including her groundbreaking scientific research with chimpanzees and a special focus on the decade she spent in Ridgefield and Danbury in the early 2000s, when her national headquarters were established locally and many of the Roots & Shoots youth programs were developed. Dr. Shaw will also share her personal experience working with Jane Goodall one summer in Tanzania, reflect on how Jane Goodall inspired her and others in this area, and discuss the lasting impact of her work.

Those with memories, photographs, documents, or objects related to Jane Goodall, her time in Ridgefield, or Roots & Shoots are encouraged to bring them for show and tell.

All are welcome to this free gathering. Because seating is limited, advance registration is requested here. For more information, email [email protected] or call 203-438-5821.
