Treasures from the Archives: Wooden Voting Box

This wooden voting box was used by the Ridgefield Italian American Club to vote on membership. It was donated to the Historical Society by Irene M. Gray in 2018.

This Treasure from the Archives is on display at the Scott House, 4 Sunset Lane, for the month of July 2022. Come by and vote.

This wooden voting box was used by the Ridgefield Italian American Club to vote on membership. It was donated to the Historical Society by Irene M. Gray in 2018.

The black marble represented a vote against including someone as a member, and the white marble was used as a vote in favor of including someone as a member. Members of the club would place their vote in one end of the box, and the marble would come out on the other side. Once everyone had voted, the marbles were counted and whichever color had the majority won.
