Ridgefield Historical Society Joins Memorial Day Parade with Tribute to Local Heroes

With a moving display of remembrance and pride, the Ridgefield Historical Society helped commemorate Ridgefield’s fallen heroes in this year’s Memorial Day Parade.

The Ridgefield Historical Society proudly participated in the town’s Memorial Day Parade on May 26, 2025, marking its official debut in this cherished community tradition. The Society’s float honored the over 70 Ridgefield servicemen who gave their lives in service to our country, from King George’s War in 1748 to the Iraq War in 2004, with a powerful memorial display leading the procession. Behind it, a replica of the historic 1714 Scott House — the Society’s headquarters — symbolized the enduring connection between the town’s past and present. Volunteers and board members, some dressed in period attire, marched alongside the float, offering a living tribute to the generations who shaped Ridgefield’s history.

This year’s clear skies provided the perfect backdrop to share both remembrance and celebration. The Historical Society was honored to take part, reflecting the town’s deep respect for its veterans while showcasing the vibrant growth of the organization and its ongoing commitment to preserving Ridgefield’s story. Special thanks to Dr. Darla Shaw for initiating the Historical Society’s float, Pete Nichols for leading the construction, and Rob’s Lawn & Landscaping for generously allowing us to borrow his truck and trailer!
