The Ridgefield Historical Society is proud to announce Alma Abraham as the recipient of its 2025 $1,000 scholarship. A senior at Ridgefield High School with a stellar 4.3 GPA, Alma will be attending the University of Connecticut this fall to pursue a major in Pre-Pharmacy. Her passion for both science and history, along with her dedicated weekly volunteer work at the Historical Society, made her standout among this year’s applicants.
Alma’s interest in history deepened during her AP U.S. History course, where she was particularly drawn to the Progressive Era and the work of the Muckrakers—journalists who exposed corruption and sparked reforms. “This era showed the importance of unity to fight injustices,” she wrote in her application.
As a Thursday volunteer at the Historical Society, Alma has preserved and organized historic photographs, gaining a deeper appreciation for Ridgefield’s unique place in American history. “Preserving the town’s history gives future generations a chance to experience the excitement of learning about the past just as we did,” she shared. We congratulate Alma on her achievements and look forward to seeing the impact she will make in the future.
The Ridgefield Historical Society’s annual scholarship honors exceptional Ridgefield High School students like Alma who demonstrate a strong passion for history and a meaningful commitment to preserving Ridgefield’s cultural heritage. By supporting students in their educational journeys, the Ridgefield Historical Society affirms its mission to nurture a lasting appreciation of Ridgefield’s history and its significance to both today and the future.
