Hiking through History with Dr. Bellantoni

Dr. Nicholas Bellantoni gave a lively presentation about his new book, Hiking Ruins of Southern New England.

On July 10, 2024, Dr. Nicholas Bellantoni, Emeritus Connecticut State Archaeologist, delivered an illustrated presentation on his new book, Hiking Ruins of Southern New England, at the Ridgefield Library. This event was co-sponsored by the Ridgefield Historical Society, Books on the Common, and the Ridgefield Library. Following the presentation, attendees had the opportunity to meet Dr. Bellantoni during a book signing and reception.

Dr. Bellantoni’s presentation explored archaeological ruins of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, revealing the cultural and historical significance of these sites, many of which are located on popular hiking trails. His book, co-authored with Barbara Ann Kipfer and published by Falcon Guides in 2024, provides insights into the origins and purposes of these ruins, making them accessible to the public for exploration and education. Ridgefield residents will recognize Dr. Bellantoni’s name from his involvement in uncovering the remains of four soldiers at the Battle of Ridgefield site in 2019. With a distinguished career that includes serving as the Connecticut State Archaeologist and holding positions at the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History and the University of Connecticut, Dr. Bellantoni brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to this engaging and informative event.
