Discovering Ridgefield’s Fascinating Women

We traversed Ridgefield's roads on a bus to learn about and celebrate the women of Ridgefield!

On Saturday, March 23, 2024 the Ridgefield Historical Society celebrated Women’s History Month by hosting a sold out bus tour of Ridgefield with the amazing Dr. Darla Shaw, Ridgefield resident and “retired” women’s studies professor at Western Connecticut State University. Stories of over 50 of Ridgefield’s most fascinating and notable women were shared with attendees. From Clare Boothe Luce and Alice Paul to Mabel Cleves and Elizabeth Ballard, these exceptional women left their marks on our town and well beyond.

Many thanks to Dr. Darla Shaw for conceiving and creating the tour, in the interest of celebrating the extraordinary women of Ridgefield. Speaking of fascinating women, thank you to the Karla Murtaugh Homes Team for sponsoring the tour and appreciating the value of the past. Thank you to our Goody Bag contributors, Cross Private Client Insurance and RVNAhealth who understand that every detail counts; and thank you to our school bus driver PJ, for keeping our field trip safe and sound!
