We are happy to introduce you to The Herrick Portrait, a painting of Lois Herrick, née Hall. And as lovely as this portrait is, Lois’ story is quite interesting too.
This January, capitalizing on unseasonably warm temperatures, the Ridgefield Historical Society called in the crew to complete construction on a project to address water seepage and land grading issues at the Scott House.
Monica McMorran, an Historical Society Board Member since 2004, recently retired, but remains an active volunteer on our Archives Committee. Her contributions have been significant.
The Ridgefield Historical Society was a recent beneficiary of a CTH Cultural
Fund Operating Support Grant, helping us do our work and serve our mission.
It’s January. The days are long yet short, and the prospect of spring is still many months away. But at the Ridgefield Historical Society, there is a definite energy and light. And we know where it comes from — our college intern, Antonia ten Holder.

This edition of the Scott House Journal includes Jack Sanders’ recommendations on what items are worth saving to help future historians provide an accurate view of the past; as well as an account of a curious 1925 Ridgefield court case over that most simple of resources — wood. This story was recently uncovered while reviewing documents in the Ridgefield Historical Society archives.
This edition of the Scott House Journal includes stories on the inaugural Witness Stones installation in Ridgefield at the David Scott House, also the Historical Society headquarters; and a wonderful biography of Mabel E. Cleves, a champion of kindergarten in Ridgefield in the earlier 1900s.
On Saturday, October 15, the Ridgefield Historical Society celebrated our 21st birthday with the official removal of the 20th Anniversary Banner and the launch of our partnership and collaboration with Ridgefield Boy Scout Troop #76.
The Ridgefield Historical Society Archives team devotes countless hours to reviewing and cataloging items for the Collection. In this post, board member and archivist Monica McMorran shares her favorite treasure.
