Historic House Plaques

Historic Buildings Deserve to be Recognized

Plaques for Historic Homes

The historic properties of Ridgefield deserve note – they represent the character and heritage of our town. Any building over 50 years old in Ridgefield is eligible to receive a plaque.

Since 2001, the Ridgefield Historical Society has honored Ridgefield houses and accessory buildings, including barns, stores, and studios, with distinctive commemorative plaques. The wooden plaque design, approved by the Town of Ridgefield, is crafted by an artisan sign maker who specializes in hand workmanship.

If you are interested in purchasing a plaque for your home or other historic structure, please fill out the form below and we will get in touch with you. Purchasing a plaque is purely honorary and in no way limits your right to make alterations to your house in the future.

Plaques are handpainted in black on a white background, measure 10 inches high (including the contour cut top) x 14 inches wide x 1/2 inch deep, include mounting screws, and are nonrefundable.

Each plaque comes with a brief snapshot history of your house.

Pricing is discounted for members of the Ridgefield Historical Society. To become a member and read about the other benefits of membership, click here.

It takes approximately 8-10 weeks to produce a plaque and this is the process:

1. Fill out order form below and submit payment by credit card on the next page. If you don’t know the answer to a question on the form, simply indicate that in the corresponding field.

2. Historical Society will contact you with a history snapshot of your home and the suggested wording for your plaque. This takes time, and your patience is appreciated.

3. The Historical Society will then email you a proof of your plaque from the sign maker for you to approve.

4. It will then take up to another month for your plaque to be custom made and the Historical Society will notify you when your sign is ready to be picked up at the Scott House at 4 Sunset Lane (shipping is not available).
