2021 LEGO® Contest Winners Announced!

The winning entry of our 2021 LEGO® Sculpture Contest is a model of the Peter Parley Schoolhouse by Bobby, Owen, and Paityn Sommerer.

Congratulations to the Sommerer children — Bobby, 9; Paityn, 7; and Owen, 4 — who put their skills together and won the 2021 Ridgefield Historical Society LEGO® Sculpture Contest with their intricate rendition of the Peter Parley Schoolhouse.

The Sommerers were inspired to create the Parley Schoolhouse following their Halloween visit last year where they were treated to Dr. Darla Shaw’s storytelling of Revolutionary War figures, and each had a turn ringing the Schoolhouse bell, which is featured in their LEGO® reproduction.

As fourth-generation Ridgefielders, the Sommerer children have a deep appreciation for the heritage of our town. They also have the good fortune to live on the same road as their grandparents (Bob and Debbie Swanson) and their late great grandparents before them (Ernest and Alice Swanson). Owen attends pre-school at CCK (Creative Children’s Korner), and Bobby and Paityn are students at Branchville Elementary, the same school their Mom, Erica, attended. Their dad, Robert, went to Ridgebury. And, their great great Aunt, Betty McCoy, was the Branchville School librarian in her day. Now that’s historic!

In addition to the 2021 LEGO® Champion title, the Sommerers won a $50 gift card, generously donated by Ann Lathrop and The Toy Chest. Thank you to all contest participants for sharing your talents, and to the Toy Chest for making victory so fun.
