Silhouette portraits are cut in the traditional manner—freehand with only scissors, without drawing, tracing any shadow, or using any machine. No shadows. No software. No cameras. Nothing but the eye, paper, and scissors. The resulting image often astounds—not only does the silhouette capture the likeness of the person, but it also conveys something essential about their character. This quality is particular to the fine art of silhouette cutting and is the reason the art-form is still in demand, decades after its heyday in the 1700s.
