DESCRIPTION:Battle of Ridgefield Bus Tour\n\n\n\nBattle of Ridgefield 250th approaches; Bus tour to explore battlefield route and new discoveries \n\n\n\nWhen the tickets sell out\, sign up here to join the waitlist and we’ll let you know if tickets become available: https://forms.gle/p5kmTrncp8S2HF168 \n\n\n\nAs the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Ridgefield approaches\, the Ridgefield Historical Society is offering a rare opportunity to travel the route of the British troops and hear firsthand about archaeological discoveries that have transformed our understanding of the battle. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBattlefield historian and archaeologist Dr. David Naumec\, who worked on the Ridgefield Historical Society’s two National Park Service battlefield research projects\, will narrate a bus tour following the route taken by British troops from Danbury through Ridgefield on April 27\, 1777. Along the way\, he will highlight key engagements\, archaeological discoveries\, and new evidence that has expanded knowledge of how the Battle of Ridgefield unfolded. \n\n\n\nThe Battle of Ridgefield Bus Tour will take place Sunday\, Oct. 18\, starting at 10 a.m. from the Scott House\, 4 Sunset Lane. Space aboard the bus is very limited\, making this a special opportunity to experience the battlefield landscape with one of the historians directly involved in its recent investigation. The tour is expected to last about 90 minutes. \n\n\n\nThe Scott House itself has a connection to the events of April 27\, 1777. In its original location on Main Street\, the 1714 saltbox stood near some of the heaviest fighting of the battle. Today\, as headquarters of the Ridgefield Historical Society\, it sits within another area associated with the battle. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA historian\, archaeologist and museum consultant\, Dr. Naumec was named Historic New England’s Revolution 250 Research Scholar\, studying New England’s Indigenous and African American Revolutionary War veterans. A graduate of UConn\, he holds a master’s degree in History and Museum Studies from Tufts University and a PhD in Race and Ethnicity in Early America through the Civil War from Clark University. His research interests include Native American history\, colonial North America\, Connecticut history and battlefield archaeology. He is museum manager of the Captain Nathaniel B. DESCRIPTION:Ridgefield History Club: Ridgefield Then and Now Part II\n\n\n\nHow much of Ridgefield has changed over the past 150 years and how much remains the same? This will be Town Historian Jack Sanders’ topic in an illustrated talk for the Ridgefield History Club on Tuesday\, October 20\, 2026\, at 10 a.m. at the Ridgefield Historical Society’s Scott House\, 4 Sunset Lane. \n\n\n\nMain Street Ridgefield circa 1910 (top) and 2026 (bottom)\n\n\n\nThe Ridgefield History Club is an informal community storytelling program of the Ridgefield Historical Society. The group meets for an hour on the third Tuesday of every month to explore a specific topic in Ridgefield’s history through shared conversation. \n\n\n\nEach session is recorded and cataloged in the Historical Society’s archive to preserve these stories for future generations. The program is also streamed live on Facebook and uploaded to our YouTube channel. Everyone is invited\, just bring your curiosity and your love of history. Some attend every month\, while others join when a topic holds special meaning for them. Longtime Ridgefield residents and newcomers alike are welcome. SUMMARY:Halloween at the Schoolhouse
DESCRIPTION:Halloween at the Schoolhouse\n\n\n\nThere will be treats\, not tricks\, on Sunday\, Oct. 25\, at the Peter Parley/West Lane District Schoolhouse on West Lane. It’s the final Sunday open house of the 2026 season and traditionally we invite visitors to come in costume. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn about a prank at the schoolhouse that had lasting consequences for the schoolhouse or read about the hermitess Sarah Bishop\, whom Samuel G. Goodrich (Peter Parley) portrayed in a poem as The Mountain Hag. \n\n\n\nThe West Lane School was established in the mid-18th Century and served the neighborhood until 1915. It is now a small museum of early Ridgefield education\, maintained by the Ridgefield Historical Society. Admission is free on Sunday\, 1 to 4 p.m. \n\n\n\nLast Sundays at the Schoolhouse take place May through October; for more information about the schoolhouse\, visit ridgefieldhistoricalsociety.org.
