DESCRIPTION:The Archaeological Society of Connecticut Spring 2026 Meeting\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the Ridgefield Historical Society at the Archaeological Society of Connecticut’s Spring Meeting on Saturday\, May 16\, at the First Congregational Church\, 103 Main Street\, Ridgefield\, beginning with registration at 9:30 a.m. The daylong program will focus on Revolutionary War archaeology in Connecticut and the Northeast\, with presentations by Nicholas Bellantoni\, Sarah Sportman\, David E. Leslie\, Ellery Thomas Leary\, and Kevin McBride on topics including Revolutionary War sites\, the Rochambeau Camp in Bolton\, non-invasive archaeological methods\, Putnam Memorial State Park\, and new investigations of the Battle of Ridgefield by the Ridgefield Historical Society. Following the afternoon presentations\, Dr. Kevin McBride and historian Keith Jones will lead a guided tour of the Battle of Ridgefield\, highlighting important landmarks and engagement areas\, with a reception to follow. DESCRIPTION:Ridgefield History Club: Historic Trees of Ridgefield\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHistoric Trees of Ridgefield will be the topic of the June meeting of the Ridgefield History Club\, a free history discussion program of the Ridgefield Historical Society. The program will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday\, May 19\, 2026\, at the Scott House\, 4 Sunset Lane. \n\n\n\nTom McManus\, Chair of the Ridgefield Town Tree Committee\, will lead the informal conversation\, which focuses on sharing knowledge of Ridgefield’s past and is broadcast live on the Ridgefield Historical Society’s Facebook page for those who can’t attend in person. \n\n\n\nState Champion Norway Maple at Ridgefield Guild of Artists 1974\n\n\n\nThe discussion will explore the history and significance of some of Ridgefield’s notable and historic trees; the role trees have played in shaping the town’s landscape\, character\, and sense of place; efforts to identify\, protect\, and care for important trees; and the ways trees connect natural history\, community memory\, and historic preservation. Tom will also discuss the work of the Ridgefield Tree Committee and why the stewardship of historic trees remains important today. \n\n\n\nThose with photographs\, documents\, memories\, or stories related to notable trees in Ridgefield are encouraged to bring them for show and tell. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome to this free gathering. DESCRIPTION:Memorial Day Parade\n\n\n\nOn Monday\, May 25 at 11:30 a.m.\, the Ridgefield Historical Society will join Ridgefield’s Memorial Day Parade with a float honoring the countless residents who gave their lives in service to the nation\, as we mark the 250th anniversary of America this year. Volunteers and staff will be walking alongside the float. SUMMARY:Last Sundays at the Schoolhouse
DESCRIPTION:Last Sundays at the Schoolhouse\n\n\n\nThe Peter Parley/West Lane District Schoolhouse\, now a small museum operated by the Ridgefield Historical Society\, will begin its seasonal open houses on Sunday\, May 31\, from 1 to 4 p.m. Other Sunday open houses will take place June 28\, July 26\, Aug. 30\, Sept. 27 and Oct. 25\, from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission to the schoolhouse is free\, donations are accepted. \n\n\n\nDuring each open house\, guests are invited to tour the one-room school (last used by students in 1915) and learn about how Ridgefield’s district schools were organized and what has become of the structures where 18th\, 19th and some 20th Century Ridgefielders received all of their education. Ridgefield Town Historian Jack Sanders and Historical Society Vice President\, Sally Sanders\, who are the schoolhouse’s stewards\, will be on hand to answer questions. \n\n\n\nAs part of the Gateway Project\, a Semiquincentennial project to upgrade the three trianglesalong Route 35 leading to Main Street\, has brought a new roof and chimney facing to theschoolhouse\, and accent lighting to the grounds\, which will undergo further landscaping shortly.
