The Ridgefield Historical Society was fortunate this spring to work with two Ridgefield High School senior class interns. Tara Minchik and Brittany O’Brien (pictured left) completed a unique project in support of both the history of the Scott House and Ridgefield’s upcoming 300th anniversary celebration. They created and published two “walking tour” histories: one of the c.1714 Scott House and the other of our historic Main Street. Over the course of five weeks, Brittany and Tara scheduled interviews with a dozen Town notables (First Selectman Rudy Marconi, Aldrich Director Harry Philbrick, several church historians, Masons and others). Their interviews were focused on “behind the scenes” stories, documenting unusual and noteworthy 18th -20th century historical events within each organization. We now know what happened in Town Hall in the 1920s, how the famous LOVE poster of Robert Indiana was created, what notable personalities were connected with Keeler Tavern, etc. The interns wrote and recorded narratives in their own voices using the very latest digital audio technologies. Photographs of each tour stop were taken and added. Copies in CD format are available now at the Scott House (just call Nancy at 438-5821 to pick one up). Our thanks go to Tara and Brittany for creating these tours.
